I know it all but id doesn’t work

With one of my coaching clients, we had a conversation about time management techniques. He was a bit frustrated. He said: “I know all this stuff. I have known it for ages. But it still doesn’t really work for me!”

It is a legitimate question. It is very common, too. So, why the techniques don’t work for so many people me included?

I believe there is nothing wrong with the techniques and tools per se. Of course, you can try some variations to find what suits you. But techniques and tools are not a panacea to all your challenges. Proper use of them will certainly bring some relief. But there is another aspect to be considered: the inner game.

In my opinion, the inner game is where you win or lose. Do you have self-doubts? Do your feelings interfere with your performance? Does your fluctuating mood impede your progress? Do you disturb yourself? Do you get hoodwinked by your thoughts? Do you stick to your commitments? If yes – why? If not – why again?

Understanding, how our minds work is as important as understanding the environment and understanding how to use productivity and planning tools. Understanding can entice the action. Time management tools can provide the structure which will enhance the likelihood of implementation.
